I heard a Fly buzz - when I died - (591)
By Emily Dickinson
I heard a Fly buzz - when I died -
The Stillness in the Room
Was like the Stillness in the Air -
Between the Heaves of Storm -
The Eyes around - had wrung them dry -
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset - when the King
Be witnessed - in the Room -
I willed my Keepsakes - Signed away
What portion of me be
Assignable - and then it was
There interposed a Fly -
With Blue - uncertain - stumbling Buzz -
Between the light - and me -
And then the Windows failed - and then
I could not see to see -

This song I recorded with my voice the first part of the melody and the lyrics incorpating the Emily Dickinson poem above. I wanted this to be haunting, dramatic and is influenced by HBCU Marching Bands and improvized jazz sounds. This is super experimental and The lyrics have a deep theme and I'll leave that up for interpretation. I didnt want to directly name the message I gave for this song and just let it speak for itself. Please enjoy !

Intro
I heard a fly buzz
When I died-died-died
The stillness in the room
The stillness in the room
I heard a fly buzz when I died
When I died
Stillness in the room (stillness in the room)
Stillness in the room…
Verse I
Consuming my mood, my membrane, my memories,
lingering blue lips, your lingering soft kiss,
My last memories: you were my happiness
blissful mystical eyes, that’s why you were so surprised when you found me there…
Paralyzed, goodbye, family. We were conflicted; I blamed my internal feud. I'm losing my battles but didn’t lose my cool; pale skin is cold, pool of pain bold of you to assume i sleep well, hard to die now, goodbye for now, see you in the next town, dress me in my wedding gown, i was to young to die, but no one predicted this not even i, and i committed the crime, who could have predicted this except for the fly, kill my life with you (the stillness in the room) but ask the fly how im doin (the stillness in the room)
Was like the Stillness in the air—realness, content and care, tears, trumpets blare, [trumpets blare], the fly is still there do you, do you think he cares
[Instrumental break]
Verse II
Fly on the wall, call of the void, my end after all-all-all can’t h-h-hold on now, tears fall down-down- but the fly buzz keeps me around, (the stillness in the room) got my confused is this heaven or hell what do i do (do) do, the people cry? The whispers, the, children, (stillness in the room) frozen space where is the afterlife i want my paradise, purgatory, gorey ends, this is the murder of self, death or therapy im caught in this cell, yearning for peace but nobody helps, (stillness in the room) beggin the fly to be silent (stillness in-in) but the fly is still buzzing he’s lurkin hes hungry and hunting and I bet on my life he knows something, he lands on my lips this is sacralige, the devil is here in the fly, he knows my sacrifice-fice-fice [gospel swells] as if its a mystery even my scars can tell, (stillness in the room) dead mouth’s cant yell
[Spoken word break]
