How beautiful it was back then,

When I whispered my vow to You

To obey, to surrender all I am,

Nothing could ever stand in my way,

For my life and death belong to You alone.

But time has changed its face,

My life became a ship with no captain,

A kite cut loose from its string

Drifting, lost… without direction.

By the hands of desire and the world, I was undone,

In its caress, I fell.. defeated.

My soul, once pure, lies shattered;

Your sacred bounds... I broke them all,

My compass no longer points to You.

Oh Allah… return me to my fitrah,

To the One who owns my being,

Remind me of my promise to You,

Open the windows of my spirit,

Let Your light break through into my heart.

O Prophet, source of my soul’s light,

Extend Your blessing upon me,

Let me weep for all I’ve done

So my heart may turn anew,

And I may rebuild the love of my fitrah once more.

May Your mercy walk beside me,

Guiding every step I take…

Until my heart finds its way home again.
