曇花 也叫月下美人。在佛教中稱為優曇華（梵文稱優曇鉢華）
曇花的花語是「剎那間的美麗，一瞬間即永恆」，也象徵著「虛幻的美麗」、「瞬間的永恆」、「執著堅持」和「抓住機遇」。
《法蓮經 方便品》中，佛以「優曇缽華，時一現耳」來比喻佛法的稀有珍貴。「優曇華」，是千載難逢的殊勝因緣。
《長阿含經》卷一提到優曇華此樹，為過去七佛中之第五佛「拘那含牟尼佛」之成道樹。《佛說無量壽經》云：「猶如優曇鉢華，希有難遇故。」
唐‧慧琳大師《一切經音義》云，曇花不是人間的俗品，而是天界的花；只因如來、轉輪王的福德，才感生此花到凡間。
《大般若經》云︰「佛難得值，如優曇缽羅華。」
藏傳佛教關於曇花，《續部總集》記載：「一佛於世間示現正覺，於彼附近某處，即生一優曇缽羅花。」
